Convection Recuperators
In convection recuperators the gas to be heated usually flows through the tubes. Channel recuperators are installed in the exhaust gas duct and can be used at temperatures up to approx. 1,000°C. Recuperators with U-shaped tubes are designed for applications in which the thermal process causes extreme variations of the gas volume or the temperature.
Radiation recuperators are most suited for highest exhaust gas temperatures. Due to their particular geometry, it is recommended to install them in systems with exhaust gases containing a high dust load. While the exhaust gas flows through the free cross section of the recuperator with minimal pressure drop, the air to be heated is directed through a narrow gap, formed by two concentric steel cylinders.
Alternatives to this double shell design are the tube basket type that uses tubes, which are welded between two headers or combinations of both systems. |
